Cetrimonium Chloride/CTAC

HOW IT WORKS-
- As a cationic surfactant, it is absorbed onto negatively charged surfaces without leaving a visible film.
- It forms micelles in water that clean the surfaces completely.
CONCENTRATION AND SOLUBILITY-
- The suggested concentration level is 1%-2%.
- It is soluble in water and insoluble in oil.
HOW TO USE-
- Add it to any non-ionic emulsifier at 75o
- Add the oil phase.
- Heat the water phase separately and add to it.
- Stir continuously until it dissolves.
- Add other active substances after the mixture cools down to 35o
REASON FOR FORMING A GEL SOMETIMES
CTAC is known to be hygroscopic, meaning it readily absorbs moisture from the air.
It also contains a solvent that can evaporate and cause the product to become a gel.
This characteristic can cause it to form a gel-like structure that thickens over time as more and more solvent evaporates.
To mitigate this issue, we recommend the following steps:
1. Storage: Keep CTAC in an airtight container to minimize its exposure to air and heat.
2. Environment: Use CTAC in a controlled environment with low humidity to maintain its intended consistency.
This behaviour can be observed by leaving a small amount of CTAC exposed to air in a petri dish. As the solvent evaporates,
the formation of a pasty gel will be observed.
Please note that the efficacy of the active ingredient is not changed. if you want it to be free flowing Adding a small quantity of isopropanol will reconstitute
the product and make it free-flowing again.
